A 40ft open top shipping container is a specialized ISO container built without a solid roof. Instead, it features a removable tarpaulin roof and roof bows that allow cargo to be loaded from above using cranes or lifting equipment. It is a practical solution for oversized, tall, or heavy cargo such as machinery, pipes, steel beams, generators, and industrial equipment.
Built from durable Corten steel with reinforced structural components, the 40ft open top container is suitable for both transport and on-site storage applications. The removable door header provides an additional access point for standard-size goods to be loaded and unloaded through the end doors, while the open-top design enables direct vertical loading to reduce handling time.
Construction
The unit is constructed from corrugated Corten steel panels with a 1-1/8" thick marine-grade plywood floor and center dividers to protect freight. Removable roof bows support a durable, customs-approved tarpaulin that secures the topside against weather during transit. Two swingable doors with customs-approved closures and internal lashing rings and bars keep cargo stable and secure.
Delivery
40ft open top containers are delivered on a flatbed truck (tilt-bed delivery is not used for open tops, to protect the top rails). Your site will need a forklift rated for at least 15,000 lb capacity or an appropriate crane for unloading. Nationwide delivery is available from certified depot locations.
